Amazonian Goddess

A social group for TALL women (5'10 and Taller) reaching great heights.

What are some of the best responses you've come up with when asked a Tall questions?

Tall people are asked on a daily basis:

How Tall are you?
Do You play basketball?
How's the weather up there?

What do you say in response to questions people ask and how do you feel about being asked these questions. Chris Rock has a part in his new release, Kill the Messenger that mentions the fact that people feel that it is okay for the to talk about tall people, but we can't talk about short people.

What is your take on how society sees the tolerance levels when it comes to tall people?

How tall are you I usually just reply, even when I'm in a grumpy mood. People are astonished and curious, rarely do they shout mean comments. I have this image through internet that it is much more usualy tall women get bad comments after them in American than in Europe. Some of my tall friends who have been over the pond have confirmed this. Then on the other hand the Netherlands have the tallest population in the world. (I lived in the Hague between 2002-2008).

Do you play basketball and how's the weather up there? All depends a lot on my mood and how they are asked/said. There are some quick and negative responses one can give, but a good question to ask is why? As I wrote before- mostly people are just astonished and curious and to create a negative atmosphere or increase it instead of just making a joke and make people laugh - Which do you prefer?

If people are mean it happens I can go to verbal counterattack (which makes some of them quite taken aback as they obviously are so used to that we pretend not to hear) but mostly I just walk away and don't make anything of it. It's not worth it, they wont change and it is not worth my attention or energy. If they did not learn to show respect when they were young, will they then learn it when they are grown-up?

How society sees tall people I can not write about here - it would become a whole book!
*lol*

I love the "worth the climb" comment. That is great!!! You know I never really through about whether I get more stares from blacks or whites or any other nationality for that matter, but I will pay closer attention.

However, I want to share something that happened last night at a party. My friend and I arrived finally after direction and parking issues. I really needed a drink after all that and after we offered up the toys for the children that were being collected, we were being led to the bar. Thank God! Maneuvering our way through the guests, I walked nearer to a very short woman who immediately backed away and dramatically began to tell me not to stand next to her..."You are too tall..." I glanced at her initially and act as if I was ignoring her. It was not about her and she tried to make it so. Another woman who witnessed the whole thing chucked at my total disregard of the tiny tot's little episode.

My friend Debbie, who also saw what happened gave me an applauding wink when we arrived at our destination of the bar and we toasted to finally getting our champagne. So here's to all the Beautiful Tall Women - The Amazonian Goddess of the world. Happy Holidays.

I hate it when short men complain that we are :"All the same height lying down". We're not!

You are so on point with this one. If the don't reach it, they don't get any. LOL

I think society needs to have a little compassion for taller people. In my case there are very few tall women around so clothing and shoes are very hard to find.I have turned to mens clothes just so that I can be comfortable. But due to that I hear very crule questions. The favorite where I work is "Are you a man in drag". I get asked that almost everyday and I just wish short people could live a day in my life and see how hurtful some of the questions can be.
